This is a report from a Westeros.org poster (The Mountain Goat) who attended Brandon's reading (from his new Azkaban novel) at the World Science Fiction Convention in Denver this last weekend:


"I wanted to go to the Brandon Sanderson reading and Dunny was good enough to join me. However we arrived at the room to discover it had been moved from the Hyatt to the same room GRRM was in yesterday so we headed back over there, pointing Luzifer's Right Hand in the direction of the Rothfuss reading on the way.

But the room for the Brandon Sanderson reading was empty, except for one man hanging around outside the door and he said to us: "Are you here for me?", checking his name badge and yes it was Brandon on his own at his reading, awwww. What had happened is that the changed room had not been included in the Erattum sheet included with the Convention pack everyone receives, not even Brandon himself knew about the change and had arrived 10 minutes late to his own Reading. So many people had probably already left and it was just the two of us sat down chatting with Brandon Sanderson.

I asked him how the Wheel of Time: Memory of Light book was going and he said very well, in fact he had been writing some just a couple of minutes before we arrived. He could not tell us anything about what he has written so far but did say he has a strict deadline to meet and is working hard to meet it, so hopefully this book will not be delayed at all. I told him that we post on the Westeros board and I had seen his posts on the subject and that I had been impressed with the way he has handled the negativity thrown his way when he took on the project. I for one hope he can bring this unwieldy beast of a series to a satisfying conclusion.

He is writing the book in 5 separate blocks. The first four blocks will follow each of the four main groups from the point Knife of Dreams left off to the start of the Last Battle, with the fifth and final block being the Last Battle itself. I think he said he has finished the first block and is working on the second one now. He did say this will be a very big book and he does not know at this point if the publishers will be forced to put it into two separate volumes just because it is simply too big. If that does happen he wants them to make sure the books are released no more than 1 month apart.

I asked Brandon whether there will be a book of Robert Jordan's notes released after the final book and he said that he hopes there will be something like that but it may not be RJ's notes as they are now. Apparently RJ hated it for anyone to read his notes, not even his wife read them and so he does not think she will go against his wishes and let them be released like that. However it may be possible to put out a 'making of' style book showing which parts RJ wrote and which parts Brandon did or what he changed.

The notes themselves are quite confusing since RJ would write a scene in two different ways with different outcomes. They could not both happen and so Brandon needs to work out which scene to use and which way this will then change the story as he is going along.

Soon after a couple more people arrived and so Brandon read to the four of us a piece from his children's comedy novel Alcatraz. The first book is already out, the second due out soon and the piece he read from is the third book of the series of four. Apparently he has a movie deal for the books but does not know yet if it will be going into production. Spoilers are not a problem since each book is a separate story and is not greatly related to each other. He is a funny and engaging speaker and it was enjoyable to hear a short excerpt from this, obviously a completely different style to WoT or Mistborn (which I have still to read).

Dunny spoke about the difference in reading books in French and Brandon said he was impressed with her English and we chatted about some authors who write in languages other than their first language, can't for the life of me remember who they were now though."

Prije nekog vremena poslao sam Sandersonu mejl sa par pitanja u vezi Mistborna i pitanjem u vezi kraja AMOL. Danas sa dobio odgovor.

Prvo pitanja:
1.This one is about the actual story. In the Mistborn books we only see that "little" part of the world where the Lord Ruler used to be emperor. Is there anything beyond those borders? Is it all consumed by the Deepness or is there life. Or maybe even normal life unknowing of the Lord Ruler? If it's going to be answered in the last book please don't say anyting Btw I believe the mist is there actually to stop the deepness and limit it's influence, and not the Deepness itself. Whatever is causing all those deaths is actually obscured by the mists. Just saying, if it turns out to be true in the next book, you'll know someone saw through your misdirection, you sly devil.

2.And finally the AMOL question: now that you know the ending of the series, can you imagine yourself having the finished book in your hand, reading it (not having written it). Would for you as a reader the ending be thoroughly worth it? Would you be pleased, after having read all the twelve books and finally reaching the conclusion, with the way end? Would you be satisfied with? Would you be blown away?

1. There is, indeed, life outside the Final Empire. On the fringes, there are people who survive by raiding or other means, a kind of 'fremen' style desert culture. Beyond them, the land is uninhabitable--but on the south pole (the final empire is the north pole of the world) there is another enclave of people. Someday, maybe I'll be able to tell their stories. (And you might just be on to something with your theory there....)

2. I loved the ending. Honestly, it was very pleasing and climactic, it worked with the foreshadowing but had an unexpected twist to it. Very satisfying. And I'm not just saying that.

Zaista ugodan mejl mi je poslao. Spomenuo je kako mu je Kay jedan od omiljenih pisaca i da je ocekivao kako ce njega pitati da dovrsi WoT, pa se iznenadio kad su njega odabrali. Jos je bilo govora o necem, nema potrebe cijeli mejl staviti ovdje.

Nego, mislim da nece upropastiti knjigu, na kraju krajeva, tu je i Harijeta, koja je i Dzordanu pomagala pri pisanju, tako da verujem da se nece puno razlikovati od Dzordanovih dela...

Znači li to da cijela knjiga izlazi u 11.? Čisto sumnjam, sudeći po Sandersonovu blogu. Ali prvi dio zadnje knjige mogao bi izaći. Službena vijest vjerojatno slijedi u 4. mjesecu.
